Side by side, an echo,
two images vibrate,
traces converse.
Curated by Hande Varsat
A photograph does not only record; but it also recalls.
Through visual associations within the 1851.gallery collection, this exhibition brings together works born of different hands, times, and techniques, side by side through the silent language of resemblance.
From platinum-palladium to orotone, from albumen to salt print, from silver gelatin to wet collodion, these works—crafted by master photographers from around the world using diverse analog and historical techniques—enter into dialogue through visual echoes.
Rocks in a landscape find their reflection in the sea of another frame; snow-covered hills converse in the same whiteness with a solitary cabin; the light of a cave seeks its trace in the objects of a still life.
Opening on September 9, 2025, the exhibition Side by Side will be on view at 1851.gallery by appointment, Monday to Friday, until December 12, 2025.
